Rules


 

 WOOD BAT TOURNAMENT


  TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.

Start times are projected start times. Each team should be at the ballpark at least one hour prior to the scheduled time. Games will begin 30 minutes after the completion of the prior game.

1. Tournament rules must be played as handed out. Other copies of rules are null and void. All rules not covered in tournament rules are as per the rules of major league baseball.

2. SANDLOTT officials will operate the scoreboard. Any discrepancy in score should be handled immediately.

3. Protests should be lodged before the next play and should be reported to the umpire. Protests will be handled on the spot before the game is continued. Call Tom Pluto cell 941-504-2715

4. Sandlott will  provided  baseballs. Each team will be responsible for returning fall balls on their side of the field.

5. Send starting lineup to the pressbox no later than the umpire pre-game meeting 

6. Please observe the field requests: on deck practice swings in on deck circle and not on sideline grass, no batting practice in the outfield, meet at home plate to congratulate opposing team. Batting practice is available in batting cages when available. There will be no infield prior to games on the playing fields. All warmups will be in the outfield. 

7. Please have your team in uniform and at the tournament facility 30 minutes prior to game time.

8. NO COOLERS, NO ALCOHOL AND NO PROFANITY

   TOURNAMENT PLAYING RULES       

 EQUIPMENT

ANY REGULATION WOOD BAT AS APPROVED BY MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL MAY BE USED (One piece all wood bat). NO COMPOSITE, BAMBOU OR HYBRID BATS MAY BE USED IN TOURNAMENT PLAY.. ALL PLAYERS MUST WEAR COMPLETE UNIFORMS. COACHES IN THE FIELD COACHING BOXES SHOULD HAVE COMPLETE UNIFORMS OR UNIFORM SHIRT AND COACHING SHORTS. NO JEANS OR JEAN SHORTS, CAMOUFLAGE SHORTS.

GAME LENGTH

•7 INNINGS OR 2 HOURS CONSTITUTE A COMPLETE GAME EXCEPT FOR 12U AND UNDER WHICH WILL BE SIX INNINGS. NO INNING MAY START AFTER THE 2 HOUR LIMIT AND GAMES WILL BE DECLARED COMPLETE UNLESS TIED, AND THOSE GAMES WILL BE PLAYED UNTIL A WINNER IS DETERMINED. ALL GAMES NOT COMPLETED WILL BE SUSPENDED AND RESUMED FROM THAT EXACT POINT UNLESS 5 INNINGS ARE COMPLETED FOR 13 U AND ABOVE OR 4 INNINGS FOR 12U AND UNDER

• THERE WILL ALSO BE A MERCY RULE OF 8 RUNS AFTER 5 INNINGS  FOR 13 U AND ABOVE AND 4 INNINGS FOR 12U AND UNDER.

• THERE WILL BE A RUN RULE BUT NO TIME LIMIT IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

• THE UMPIRE IS THE OFFICIAL TIME KEEPER.• TEAMS WILL FLIP FOR HOME TEAM PRIOR TO EACH GAME OF POOL PLAY. THE HOME TEAM WILL KEEP THE OFFICIAL SCOREBOOK. THE HIGHER SEED TEAM WILL BE THE HOME TEAM IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND.


  INSURANCE

INSURANCE APPROVED BY SANDLOTT BASEBALL WILL BE REQUIRED OF ALL TEAMS PARTICIPATING IN PLAY.

  ROSTER

A ROSTER MUST BE PRESENTED WITH ALL PLAYERS NAMES, DATE OF BIRTH, EMAIL ADDRESS, UNIFORM NUMBER, SCHOOL, YEAR IN SCHOOL, HEIGHT AND WEIGHT PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF PLAY.

  SUBSTITUTIONS AND SPEED UP RULE

ALL STARTERS INCLUDING THE DH MAY REENTER THE GAME ONE TIME AND RETURN TO HIS ORIGINAL PLACE IN THE BATTING ORDER. YOU MAY RUN AT ANY TIME FOR THE PITCHER OR THE CATCHER WITH ANY PLAYER NOT IN THE GAME AT THAT TIME EVEN IF HE WAS A STARTER NOT PRESENTLY IN THE GAME.  IT IS NOT MANDATORY TO RUN FOR EITHER THE PITCHER OR THE CATCHER. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PITCH AN INTENTIONAL WALK.

  DESIGNATED HITTER AND OR EXTRA HITTER

WE ARE UTILIZING THE HIGH SCHOOL FEDERATION TYPE DESIGNATED HITTER.

THE DESIGNATED HITTER MAY BAT FOR ANYONE IN THE STARTING LINEUP OR FOR ANYONE REPLACING THAT STARTER. HE MUST HOWEVER BAT IN THE SAME PLACE IN THE LINEUP THROUGHOUT THE GAME. YOU LOSE THE DH POSITION WHEN: 1) THE DEFENSIVE PLAYER ASSUMES HIS POSITION IN THE BATTING ORDER. 2) WHEN THE DH ASSUMES A DEFENSIVE POSITION. THE EXTRA HITTER DOES NOT PLAY DEFENSE. A DEFENSIVE PLAYER CAN BECOME THE EH AND THE EH CAN ASSUME HIS DEFENSIVE POSITION BUT THE BATTING ORDER MUST REMAIN THE SAME AS IT WAS PRIOR TO THE DEFENSIVE CHANGE. Special note: SHOULD A STARTER BECOME INJURED OR THE TEAM BE PLACED IN A SITUATION WHERE ALL ELIGIBLE PLAYERS ARE IN THE GAME AND THERE ARE NO ELIGIBLE SUBSTITUTES TO PLACE IN THE BATTING ORDER TO SUB FOR AN INJURED PLAYER - EACH TIME THAT INJURED PLAYER IS SCHEDULED TO BAT HE WILL BE DECLARED OUT AND THE NEXT BATTER IN THE BATTING ORDER WOULD BAT. THERE IS NO FORFEIT UNLESS A TEAM HAS LESS THAN 9 ELIGIBLE PLAYERS TO BAT AND TAKE THE FIELD.

  TIE BREAKERS FOR POOL PLAY

1. HEAD TO HEAD

2. RUNS ALLOWED

3. RUNS DIFFERENTIAL

NOTE: When multiple teams are tied by having the same win loss record: pool winner is established by tie breakers in order, once the 1st place team is established subsequent rankings for 2nd and 3rd will be established also by head to head between the tied teams, then runs allowed, and  runs differential. Runs allowed will be in total pool play and not runs allowed against the tied teams. A team can receive only one bye per tournament unless all the remaining teams have received a bye. Games won by forfeit will be considered abye games also. SEEDING WILL BE DETERMINED BY RECORD AND LEAST RUNS ALLOWED IN POOL PLAY.


  RAIN SHORTENED GAMES AND TOURNAMENT

ALL GAMES SUSPENDED BECAUSE OF WEATHER OR OTHER UNCONTROLLABLE FACTORS WILL BE COMPLETED UP FROM THAT POINT INCLUDING TIME LIMIT. IN 13 U AND ABOVE IF 5 INNINGS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED OR THE HOME TEAM IS AHEAD AFTER 4 1/2  INNINGS THAT WILL BE A COMPLETE GAME. . IN 12 U AND UNDER IF 4 INNINGS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED OR THE HOME TEAM IS AHEAD AFTER 3 1/2  INNINGS THAT WILL BE A COMPLETE GAME.

 IF ANOTHER INNING IS STARTED BUT NOT COMPLETED WE WILL REVERT BACK TO THE PREVIOUS COMPLETE INNING. THE SCHEDULE MAY BE CHANGED IN ORDER TO COMPLETE UNFINISHED ROUNDS. Options could be to take only one or two teams from each pool or play 5 inning games. IF THE TOURNAMENT IS WASHED OUT, THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR WILL REVERT BACK TO THE GAMES PLAYED AND DETERMINE THE CHAMPION AND RUNNER-UP. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS IF A TEAM PLAYS AT LEAST TWO GAMES.


  TEAMS FORFEITING OR WITHDRAWING FROM THE TOURNAMENT

ALL GAMES FORFEITED WILL BE SCORED AS 7-0. IF A TEAM WITHDRAWS FROM THE TOURNAMENT ALL OPPOSING TEAMS THEY ARE SCHEDULED AGAINST, THE TEAM WITHDRAWING FROM POOL PLAY WILL BE AWARDED A 7-0 WIN REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE GAMES HAVE BEEN PLAYED OR NOT.

  EJECTION PENALTIES

PLAYERS DISQUALIFIED BY EJECTION WILL BE REQUIRED TO SERVE AN ADDITONAL GAME OF DISQUALIFICATION. COACHES DISQUALFIED FOR EJECTION WILL HAVE NO PENALTY FOR THE FIRST EJECTION. A SECOND EJECTION WILL RESULT IN DISQUALFICATION FOR THE REST OF THE TOURNAMENT.

  SLIDE RULE

WE WILL USE THE HIGH SCHOOL FEDERATION RULE FOR SLIDING INTO EACH BASE.

  OTHER PLAYING RULES

OTHER THAN THE ABOVE EXCEPTIONS, GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AS PER THE PLAYING RULES FOR MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.
